As the suns rays shine down towards onto dark colored water filled materials, heat is obsorbed and transfered to water where it is stored. A motor is required to circulate the water supply, a closed loop is created in the case of a swimming pool where cold water is taken from the pool, passed through the solar heaters (often mounted on a roof or other unobstructed location) and then returned to the pool.</p>
